Pop Art Booklet

A proposed layout design for a 16-page saddle-stitched booklet about a modern art movement.

CLIENT

TheArtStory.org: Modern Art Insight

A website that contains an encyclopedia-like presentation of basic information about modern artists and modern art movements. It exists in virtual, web form only.

CLIENT NEEDS

The need addressed by this proposed project is to display the information presented on TheArtStory.org about one art movement, Pop Art, in physical booklet form with visual examples of the artwork of that movement. Such a product could drive more traffic to TheArtStory.org’s website.

SOLUTION

For this proposed project, the textual content of the website was edited down and formatted to fit a 16 page, 8” x 6” booklet format. Images of relevant artworks were collected and paired with the copy on each page of the booklet to create an organized portrayal of the subject matter.

A visual timeline of events of the movement was created for the center spread. Colors and typefaces that exemplify the Pop Art movement were used, and an iconic example of Pop Art was placed on the cover.

For this project, I pulled upon my knowledge of Gestalt principles, information hierarchy, typography, the anatomy and principles of publication layout, Adobe Indesign, color profiles, and printing techniques. I worked with a local, professional print shop to produce this booklet.
