CLIENT
USA Toyz / Kaliber Global
Power Your Fun is a toy brand belonging to my former employer, Kaliber Global, who is a top Amazon seller. Kaliber Global stays at the forefront of online retail trends, providing in-demand toys, drones, and lifestyle products.
CLIENT NEEDS
As fidget spinners have experienced a recent burst of popularity, spinning top toys were identified as a viable product for sale on Amazon, so Kaliber Global sourced these gyroscopic cars from a factory in China, with the intention of customizing the designs that are printed on them, so that ours are completely unique.

SOLUTION

Screenshot of all 5 designs as sent to factory for production. Designed by Lauren Aldrich in 2019.

All the samples received from the factory. Only 2 sets were mass prroducted: Cars and Pets.
I was asked to create original vector artwork to be printed on these gyroscopic racer cars. Since they would be sold in sets of two, I decided that each pair should have a "cute" face and a "fierce" face. I set out to create 5 sets of 2 designs: cars, pets, desserts, robots, and aliens.
In this screenshot, you can see flat designs I created for the factory, each design on its own artboard in Adobe Illustrator. It was challenging to create graphics that would wrap around a semi-sphere, and to draw such graphics in 2 dimensions. To accomplish this, I created a depiction of the intended design as seen from the front, back, side and top. To my amazement, the factory had no trouble executing this! When we received the samples, they were all spot on! I laid them all out on my desk and snapped a photo, as seen below.
Despite the relative success of each design, the company decided to put only 2 of the 5 sets Into mass production: the cars and pets.
I then created a logo, branding and package design for this product. I was trying to emulate other matchbox cars, as well as envoke a swirling feeling.
When it was time to launch the product, I also created the listing images for Amazon. Using outsourced professional lifestyle photography and some stock assets, I applied the same graphic branding to the listing images.
When we received demo video footage from the factory, I added animated graphic captions. I also created promotional material to market this product on social media.
As I did with the Unicorn and Under the Sea Play Tents, it is so exciting to take a product all the way from the product design stage, through branding and packaging, all the way to market and beyond. Plus, these little guys are super fun to play with at any age!
